Company History

The Print Source, Inc. History Timeline

The Beginning

The knowledge and printing foundation of the company originated in 1947 with a little 3,000 square foot shop called Staats Decals, located at 1710 S. Laura. In September of 1982, Leon and Karen Lungwitz purchased this screen printing decal shop and started out with only three full-time and one part-time staff members. Just under a year later (June 1983) the office and manufacturing business was moved to 1704 South Baehr due to an increase of services and staff members.

By 1987, the company acquired another decal screen printing company out of Park City, Kansas called Graphic Screen Printing. In August of 1988, the company outgrew its space once again and more space was added to the building to accommodate.

Leon and Karen Lungwitz

In January of 1992 Leon and Karen expanded their current business (Staats Decals) by attaining a screen process printing division called Sell-O-Cal. Sell-O-Cal retained its name and became a division of Staats Decals.

By November of 1993, with the continuing growth of the company, the Lungwitz’s purchased the office property adjoined to Staats Decals (1660 South Baehr) and renovated the building to relocate their staff offices.

Additional construction took place in February of 1994 to connect the two buildings on South Baehr which provided additional warehouse and manufacturing space.

When the renovations were complete, the combined spaces yielded 40,000 square feet of manufacturing, warehouse and office space. With a commitment to future growth, the corporate name was changed to The Print Source, Inc., to better identify the variety of products and services the company offered. The Sell-O-Cal division was incorporated as a division of The Print Source, Inc.

Another division was added to The Print Source, Inc. in 1998, when the company took over operation Federated Merchandising. The new division name was changed to MC Products and marketed a wide range of products, from yard signs to house numbers, ADA signage, keys, accessories and merchandising displays.

Moving into the 21st Century

Stu Lungwitz

In January of 2000, Stu Lungwitz succeeded Leon as President of The Print Source, Inc. Leon and Karen continue to actively serve at The Print Source, Inc. This year also marked the take over of a vehicle marking company called Aero Graphics, that was phased in as another division of The Print Source, Inc.

More land was acquired in 2002 to the west of  the company location on S. Baehr. Within weeks of that acquisition, construction was started on a new building to house the addition of container decorating and provide more warehouse space. Since 2002 marked the 20th anniversary for the company, a new logo was introduced to better convey the capabilities and identity of the company.

By 2005, expansion was once again on the horizon as a residence adjoining the new company bottle decorating facility was purchased and razed with the intention of expanding the bottle decorating facility to the south. Gas lines and existing utilities prevented this expansion, causing the search for new facilities that would better meet expansion plans for The Print Source, Inc.

In 2006, the division called MC Products was sold, leading way for the company to focus on the fastest growing products and markets. With an eye toward the future growth of the company, the property located at 404 South Tracy in Wichita, KS (our current location to date) was purchased and refurbished. With ~104,000 square feet, the new facility provided the required capacity to consolidate all of the equipment and personnel of The Print Source, Inc. under one roof, with room to expand and grow.

The Print Source, Inc. went on to win the 2009 Tier Two Small Business of the Year Award by the Wichita Regional Chamber of Commerce. And has operated successfully ever since.
